About Kawea
Kawea is a Māori-owned law and consultancy firm based in Heretaunga, Hastings. Our name comes from kawe: to carry, convey, bear. We carry the kaupapa, decisions and ambitions of the people who trust us with them, with technical skill, strategic clarity and tikanga.
We work with whānau, businesses, trusts, PSGEs, Māori organisations and Crown agencies across Aotearoa.
Te Uranga Belk
Lawyer and Director
Te Uranga co-leads Kawea’s strategic direction and specialises in commercial law, finance and corporate governance. She is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors, a qualified translator and a graduate of Te Panekiretanga o Te Reo.
Piripi Winiata
Lawyer and Director
Piripi leads Kawea’s property and conveyancing practice. He is a qualified translator and a graduate of Te Panekiretanga o Te Reo. Piripi is also a co-founder of Kawau Partners.
Riana Te Ngahue
Senior Solicitor
Riana brings deep experience from leading commercial law firms together with expertise in te reo Māori as a graduate of the masters level programme, Te Reo Kairangi. Her work supports organisations serving Māori communities.
